Calculators

Tip calculator

Enter the bill, pick a tip and the number of people.

How to use it

Type the bill total before tip, choose a percentage with the quick buttons or type your own, and set how many people are paying. The tip, the total and each person’s share appear immediately.

Tick “round up” if everyone pays in cash: each share is rounded up to a whole amount and the page shows what the tip becomes after rounding.

Customs differ. In the United States 15–20% is usual at a table-service restaurant; in much of Europe a service charge may already be on the bill, and rounding up or adding 5–10% is common. Check the receipt for a service charge before adding a tip.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Etiquette guides usually say before tax, but many people tip on the total. The difference is small; type whichever amount you prefer.

How do I split a bill unevenly?

Run the calculator once per person with their own subtotal and one person, or split the shared items and add them to each subtotal.

Does the rounding change the tip?

Yes. Rounding up makes the group pay a little more, and the page shows the new tip amount and percentage.
