How to use it
Choose an image or drop it on the box. It is drawn onto a canvas no larger than the longest-edge limit and re-encoded with the quality you set; the result, the size saved and a download button appear below. Change the settings and press Compress again to compare.
JPEG and WebP are lossy: quality 70–80 is usually indistinguishable on screen and much smaller. PNG is lossless, so quality has no effect and the file only shrinks if the pixel size shrinks. Transparent areas become white in JPEG output.
Example: a 4000 × 3000 phone photo of 3 MB, longest edge 1600 and quality 75, typically becomes a JPEG of a few hundred kilobytes. The re-encoded file does not keep the original EXIF data, which removes location tags as a side effect.
