Password generator

Passwords are created on your device and never sent anywhere.

Check the strength of your own password

How to use it

Set the length with the slider, choose character sets and press Generate (changing an option also creates new passwords). Each password contains at least one character from every set you ticked. Copy the one you want straight into your password manager.

Characters are picked with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographic random number generator, using rejection sampling so no character is more likely than another. Strength is shown as entropy: length × log₂(number of possible characters). 20 characters from all four sets give about 130 bits, far beyond what can be brute-forced.

The optional checker estimates the strength of a password you type, flags common passwords, sequences and repeated characters, and never sends what you type anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate passwords on a website?

This page creates them locally with your browser’s cryptographic generator; no password is sent over the network. You can even load the page and go offline.

How long should a password be?

At least 12–16 characters for accounts you care about, and a unique password for every site. A password manager makes that practical.

Are passphrases better?

A passphrase of 5–6 random words is also strong and easier to type. What matters is randomness and length, not clever substitutions.
