Memory

Memory – match the pairs

Turn over two cards. If they match they stay face up – find every pair in as few moves as you can.

How to play

  1. Tap a card to turn it over, then tap a second one.
  2. A match stays face up with a blue frame. If the symbols differ, both cards turn back after a moment – try to remember where they were.
  3. Finish when every pair is found. One move = two cards turned. Fewer moves is better; the time breaks ties.

Start with 12 cards for young children and move up to 36 cards for a real memory workout. The symbols are simple coloured shapes drawn for this site. Keyboard users can Tab to a card and press Enter.

Frequently asked questions

Is this good for children?

Yes. The 12-card board is a gentle start, there is no time limit and no text to read during play.

How is the best score decided?

By the fewest moves; if moves are equal, the faster time wins. It is stored separately for each board size.

Are the cards in a different place every game?

Yes. The deck is shuffled randomly at the start of every game.
